January 2024: Bonus Repair Extended to Broken Screens
Since January 1, 2024, the Repair Bonus covers accidental damage to equipment. This financial aid, implemented by the State as part of the AGE (Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy) law, has been benefiting the French people since December 2022. The measure aims to encourage consumers to repair their items in case of malfunction, in order to avoid replacing equipment that could be restored.
Thus, the owner of a smartphone can now benefit from a Repair Bonus of €25 in case of screen breakage. This amount will be deducted from their bill if they bring their phone for repair to a QualiRépar certified artisan. An extension of the Repair Bonus that is significant, as in 2022, the Agency for the Environment and Energy Management highlighted that 80% of smartphone repairs were related to screens.
This year, France continues its commitment to the sustainability of electrical and electronic equipment initiated by the deployment of the repairability index in January 2021. The measures offered to citizens, supported by sometimes controversial campaigns (notably that of "Le Dévendeur," launched by ADEME in November 2023), announce a change in the air.
