CES 2024: What place does sustainability have in the aisles of the exhibition?
January 9: start of CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2024. During this essential American event, companies and startups showcase their technological innovations.
Among the major themes at the heart of this year's presentations, artificial intelligence takes the lead. It is present everywhere: health, productivity, sustainability... (the CES' graphic design is no exception). Among the winners of CES 2024, we notably find:
- Minitailz - an AI-powered connected collar designed to monitor the health of your dog.
- BirdBuddy - a tracker designed to take photos of passing birds in your garden and recognize them with AI.
The exhibition's floor plan gives an overview of the mains trends at the show, which opens its doors to the public today.

At the bottom of the list of CES's main themes: the Sustainability section. Associated applications revolve around energy, resilience, clean water...
At a glance, one can see that at CES sustainable development is primarily conceived in connection with Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities. In other words, technosolutionism reigns: Tech will overcome climate change, thanks to connected sensors allowing us to remotely adjust the temperature of our homes or monitor the electricity production of our solar panels.
Will technology actually solve environmental issues? This 2024 edition of CES may provide some answers.
